Coach Chad - I am drafting an introductory letter to parents. I'd like to send it out tomorrow evening. I need to ask for parent volunteers.
Koach Karl - You may want to check if any of the parents have a HUGE back-yard in which to hold your 'two Thursday' practices :)
I suggest that you 'assign' parents certain duties rather than ask for 'volunteers'. I have found that the ones that volunteer are eventually over-burdened and drop-out while the others sit-back and eventually complain :(
Coach Chad - Did I mention my head is spinning? Ha.
Koach Karl - If your 'head is spinning' then it is because you are allowing everyone to dump all the responsibilities on you. If your head 'is spinning' then it is because you are taking care of everything that is put in front of you. STOP…!!!
Your only responsibility is to your players … You volunteered to coach the team not take care of all the other details.
Take care of one detail and the parents, admin. and everyone else will be more than happy to have you take care of more or even all the details
Let everyone know, that from now on, the only detail you will take care of is the development of your players. Believe me, if you plan on doing a good job, this will take more of your time than you realize!
Assign someone to be your Assistant coach who takes care of the details like taking care of the equipment. Assign someone else to be the Team Manager who takes care of the details that the Assistant coach can't cover. Assign someone to be Team Parent who takes care of giving assignments to the other parents…Etc. etc. etc.
In other words, make this a true team effort, and get everyone involved so that you are left alone to be able to focus strictly on 'coaching'.
